Mathildenhöhe
Artist colony on the Mathildenhöhe
In 1899, Hesse’s Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig called seven artists to Darmstadt, whose first joint task was to create a living and working environment and to present the finished work to the public. These include the wedding tower (tel: 06151-7019087), Russian chapel, plane grove, exhibition building and residential buildings. The former studio building of the artists was created after the model of a medieval building hut. Since 1990 the building has been a museum artist colony Darmstadt.
